The AK-47 strain, and all her crosses is yet another one of the classic strains that originated in the Netherlands around the 1980’s and 1990’s. AK-47 belongs to the family of early hybrids, that were result of crossing strains that were the opposites when it comes to their genetic origin. Also known as K2, it is a very famous strain that each and one of us kept buying and smoking in Amsterdam’s 1990-2000.

The genesis of the AK-47 also goes back to the 1990’s Amsterdam, where breeders from Serious Seeds company, one of the well established cannabis seedbanks in holland developed a cross between Thai and Afghani genetics. Thanks to this development we have learned a lot about the way how different landrace genetics interact with each other and how to choose the right cultivars in order to produce even stronger and bigger plants. This has also established the Netherlands with its famous cannabis strains.

AK-47 would derive it’s name from the fact that it had knocked out inexperienced users just after one toke. Hence the “one hit wonder” term has been established among the cannabis community for the strains that would give an immediate effect even after one hit. We should also remember that back in those days, usual cannabis product used by a smoker was of a poor quality, mostly some outdoor sinsemillas with a very little content of THC, therefore once introduced to some first potent hybrids like AK-47, White Widow were blown away by the effects.
